Dr. Karena Wu is Owner and Clinical Director of ActiveCare Physical Therapy® in NYC and Mumbai. She is a native of Los Angeles, California and has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California at Riverside. She has been practicing physical therapy for over 19 years in New York City. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the Program In Physical Therapy at Columbia University and received her Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University. She has advanced training in manual therapies, specifically in the Maitland Australian Approach and Myofascial Release. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) Faculty. Karena is also a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Kinesiology Tape Practitioner and Pilates Instructor. She holds LSVT BIG, FMS and SFMA Level 1 certifications as well.
Karena is a dedicated practitioner who takes a holistic approach to her practice. She trains all of the therapists working in the NY and Mumbai locations with her holistic practice philosophy. She actively networks with a team of physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, personal trainers and Pilates instructors. Her patient population consists of high net worth professionals, international royalty, professional athletes, dancers, chefs, celebrity Broadway/TV/film stars, and NYPD/FDNY. She has a limited practice in NY, Mumbai and with private clients.
Karena is used as a healthcare expert on CBS, NBC, NY1, PIX11, Verizon Fios, Fox News, The Doctors and Dr. Oz. She is the Medical Director for the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), the US professional beach volleyball tournament series. Karena was the Director of Education for SpiderTech Kinesiology Tape and continues to work with all kinesiology tape companies.
Dr. Patrick Kim
Dr. Patrick Kim hails from northern New Jersey. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Columbia University after originally studying History at UCLA.
He seeks to tailor and implement a holistic plan of care to achieve all of your personal and lifestyle goals. By addressing fundamental drivers of your pain and dysfunction, he enables you to not only return to baseline but to become durable against new and recurring dysfunction and optimized in activity. As a result, you may very well perform even better than before. He’s a bit greedy in this way.
Patrick is an avid fan of basketball, MMA, travel, dance, and karaoke to name a few and is an adult learner of the piano and Brazilian Jiu jitsu. He is consistent in learning new approaches to empower his patients to lead freely active lives and has taken a particular interest in new and exciting developments in nutrition and practices in optimizing human physiology.
Maria Frances Cadiz
Maria was originally born in Virginia, USA but was raised in Manila, Philipines. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Santo Tomas in 2017. During her internship year, she gained experience in different clinics and hospitals with varying patient populations. She is also a registered Physical Therapist in the Philippines and has worked with orthopedic, musculoskeletal, neurologic, sports, pediatric, and geriatric clients.
Maria returned to the US in late 2018 to further her career in the field. She is able to foster a good relationship with her clients through her open and empathetic nature. She takes pride in her ability to develop a treatment plan that is personalized to each individual. As such, she believes that continuing education is a crucial part to be able to provide the best medical care. She strives to continuously expand her knowledge and manual skills by taking courses on manual therapy from the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) and aims to begin her doctorate degree within the year.
During her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, eating, and trying new things. Maria is also fluent in Tagalog/Filipino.
Dr. Hai Lin
Dr. Hai Lin was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelors of Science in Clinical Health Sciences and a minor in Asian American Studies. He then received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Ithaca College. Dr. Lin has accumulated numerous clinical experiences in various settings ranging from sports orthopedic patients in private outpatient clinics to spinal cord patients at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Lin strives to incorporate an integrated approach to patient care. He understands the various factors that play a role in physical dysfunction. He looks at physical structures such as hip muscle stability contributing to calf pain or psycho-social factors such as stress or nutrition. These are all impediments to healing that Dr. Lin will consider in the patient plan of care. Dr. Lin also understands that learning exists on a continuum. The healthcare field is an ever changing field and in order to meet the growing demands he believes continuing education is key. He actively seeks continuing education opportunities with the primary purpose of delivering efficient care for you, the patient.
Dr. Hai Lin considers himself a life long learner. He continually seeks ways to improve his old passions such as in basketball, weight lifting, and reading. He is also looking to improve in new passions such as meditation practice, cooking, and budgeting.
George is originally from Cairo, Egypt. He earned his Bachelor of Physical Therapy from Misr University for Science and Technology College of Physical Therapy in Egypt in 2006. George has always been interested in improving as a physical therapist and getting more manual hands-on training internationally. He traveled to China for a Traditional Chinese Tuina massage course and was introduced to Visceral manipulation (VM) in Greece in 2016. He continued the extensive VM coursework from the Barral Institute in America and has taken Level 1-4. He has also taken Mulligan Manual Therapy Concept coursework.
George first visited New York in April 2017 and decided he wanted to live here . He received his New York State Physical Therapy license in February 2018. He has worked in many different fields including sports, orthopaedic and neurology. He consistently attends study groups and trains with his peers and friends in NY who share the same passion.
George believes in continual learning and is looking to gain more manual skills, even when his patients tell him, ‘He’s the best’. He has an unusual love of traveling. He has been to 9 countries and 29 states. However, Manhattan is his primary love which is why he calls it home.
